Use a separate solo save. Reach Island 4 around 30-32 minutes, rely on the Uzi from Island 3 onward, buy only route-critical upgrades, and carry the Albatross meat into Island 5. The documented post-1.0.5 route finished near 54 minutes, leaving little room for repeated late-boss failures.

Patch warning and save setup
Older Bean routes used an island-access exploit that was removed in patch 1.0.5. Do not follow a pre-1.0.5 video without checking its route. The plan here follows a legitimate five-island path documented after that change.
Create a separate solo save. Co-op can make fights easier, but coordination, boss scaling, shared shopping decisions, and reconnect delays are costly under a one-hour timer. Keep your completion save untouched so a failed speedrun never destroys normal progress.
Island 1: leave with only what matters
Collect clams and feed the fisherman until you can buy the $45 Knife, $3 Crab-Fishing Rod, and $12 Beer. This is a $60 core budget before the radar. A single knife sharpening is optional; repeated upgrades usually cost more time than they save.
Summon the Spider Crab immediately after the purchase set is complete, kill it, hand in the shell, buy the radar, and sail. Do not spend time on Drip variants, skins, optional bait, or perfect kill multipliers.
Island 2: obtain the Pistol and inventory slot
Use controlled Dynamite fishing to reach the Pistol budget quickly, then free inventory space by leaving route items in the boat when they are not needed. Collect the three leeches, take the Leech Bait, and kill Giant Piranha with the standard Pistol route.
The objective is not a perfect Island 2 loadout. Leave as soon as the boss hand-in adds the next coordinates. Every extra shopping loop reduces the margin for the two whale fights.
Island 3: build the final weapon core
Buy the Uzi, upgrade bullets, and prioritize the Extended Magazine. Once the Uzi is ready, drop the Pistol so your working inventory contains only the Uzi, rod, radar when sailing, and healing supplies.
Fish with the Standard Lure until you have enough money and an endangered species for the tourist. If Blue Shark appears before the Uzi is ready, abandoning that fight is faster than forcing an inefficient kill. Get the Carrot and defeat Pufferfish.
Island 4: meet the pace check
Farm only until you can buy the $600 Compensator and $1,200 Professional Boss Lure. Finish catches without aiming down sights when you can do so safely, because the style multiplier improves sale value.
Kill Tuna, refill health before placing it, and fight the Albatross from the weapon shed doorway. Keep its meat after the fight; those chunks become valuable lava-cooked resources on Island 5. A save showing Island 4 around 30-32 minutes is a workable pace. Much later leaves little recovery time.
Island 5: spend for control, not completeness
Cook the Albatross meat in lava, buy the Uzi suppressor, at least one Scientific Lure, and enough bullet damage to make the weapon reliable. A red-dot sight is optional if your hipfire control is already consistent.
Use quick catches for the scientist hand-in and prepare lava-cooked heals before each whale. After the regular whale dies, drop the rod if necessary to free another healing slot. The final mutated fight is where most of the run's remaining time is won or lost.
- One late-boss failure can be recoverable; two usually consume the remaining margin.
- Do not reorganize every dropped item. Keep the Uzi, required bait, and healing loop simple.
- If a route is consistently late at Island 4, optimize shopping and sailing before practicing the final boss again.
Frequently asked questions
Should Bean be done solo or in co-op?
Solo is the more consistent documented route because it avoids coordination delays and lets one player control every purchase, save, and sailing decision.
What is a good Island 4 time?
The current community route treats roughly 30-32 minutes on reaching Island 4 as enough pace to finish below one hour.
Does the old Island 5 skip still work?
The early route that reached the final island before unlocking it was reported patched in 1.0.5. Use a route that completes all five islands.
